23 years old Lokshari Kunwar originally comes from Bajura District. She is an epileptic patient. On 16 May 2022, Lokshari was preparing food when she got convulsion and fell on the open cooking fire. She had sustained deep burn. Her husband had gone to the field when the incident happened. Luckily, her neighbor rushed to help her when he saw her unconscious, near the fire. Unable to afford the treatment, for days, she was stranded at the Bayalpata Hospital.
After Medical Rehabilitation Organization contacted BVS-Nepal about Lokshari, the BVS-Nepal team had coordinated with Patan Academy of Health Sciences (PAHS). She was brought to PAHS for further treatment. According to the Doctors at PAHS, Loksari had a 40 percent chance of survival. Despite sustaining deep burn, after 43 days of hospital stay, she got discharged on 8 July 2022.
We are thankful to the PAHS, Medical Rehabilitation Organization and everyone who helped Lokshari reach Lalitpur. BVS-Nepal had financially supported for her medical treatment and provided clothes and nutrition baskets along with baby food and clothes for her child. An additional support to her husband, who had been attending her at the hospital since a month had been provided.
BVS-Nepal had re-established a fully equipped Burn Unit at PAHS to ensure an increased access to the burn care services for people. The burn ward has been in operation since 4th April 2021 and has provided burn care treatment to many patients since.
